William Shakespeare, the world famous poet and playwright, was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and continued to have a very direct link with the town throughout his life, finally retiring here in 1613, where he died 3 years later.  The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust owns and cares for the 5 Shakespeare Houses in and around Stratford and visitors are able to take a tour of these locations.
